mundanity with light touches of transcendence

The consequences of one small question and one big answer.

There may come a day when “wife” is not such an exciting word to say, but that day has not yet arrived. We’re still amateurs at this marriage thing, not yet having celebrated our one year anniversary, but every day keeps getting better and we keep making more exciting plans.

Wedding Gift

On the day that we were married, I gave Freya a few gifts. My lifelong promise to love, serve, and protect her was the biggest, but also important were the pair of Converse All-Stars (or Chucks as they are known now). They served as replacements for the ailing pair she kept refusing to get rid of.

I can easily see the cheesy symbolism of receiving new shoes as you start a new life, but I’m not one for cheesy metaphors. Instead, I appreciated that the gift was romantic to her and very meaningful, but not an obvious wedding gift, because if there’s one thing we pride ourselves on, it’s being very different from the “norm”.

Making Room

When I first met her
I knew in a moment
I would have to spend
the next few days
re-arranging my mind
so there’d be room
for her to stay.
